Zhang Yiming Allocates 50% of Time to ByteDance AI Unit Seed

ByteDance founder Zhang Yiming dedicates half his working hours to Seed, the company's AI research arm, signaling a strategic pivot toward foundational model development.

Woofun AI reports that Zhang Yiming, founder of ByteDance, allocates 50% of his time to Seed, the company's AI research division. Xu Xin, founder of Today Capital, disclosed this during the High Energy podcast while advising Xinghai Picture CEO Gao Jiyang to prioritize model direction over daily management. She noted that despite TikTok's scale, Zhang maintains this heavy focus on Seed. Established in 2023, Seed focuses on large language models, speech, vision, world models, and AI infrastructure, providing capabilities for products including Bean Bag, Button, and DreamPlus.
