Metaplanet Acquires Siiibo Securities to Launch Bitcoin Collateralized Bonds
Metaplanet buys Siiibo Securities for ~$13M to issue 4-6% yield Bitbonds, aiming to build a Bitcoin-centric financial institution and secondary market in Japan.
Woofun AI reports that Japanese listed firm Metaplanet has acquired Siiibo Securities, a licensed entity authorized to design and sell securities in Japan. The transaction, valued at approximately 2.1 billion yen (about $13 million), serves as the foundation for issuing "Bitbonds," which are Bitcoin collateralized bonds offering an annualized interest rate of 4% to 6%. These instruments will eventually migrate to blockchain settlement via stablecoins to form a secondary market. Under the "Project Nova" roadmap, Metaplanet intends to enable companies with Bitcoin balance sheet strategies to issue bonds on its platform to purchase BTC, thereby establishing a new type of financial institution centered around Bitcoin. The company currently holds approximately 43,000 BTC, ranking as the third largest Bitcoin treasury among global publicly listed companies.
