Metaplanet Acquires Siiibo Securities for $13M to Launch Bitcoin-Backed Bonds
Metaplanet buys Siiibo Securities for $13M to obtain Type 1 license, enabling issuance of 4-6% yield Bitcoin-backed bonds and expanding treasury infrastructure.
Woofun AI reports that Benchmark analyst Mark Palmer stated the market underestimated Metaplanet’s acquisition of Siiibo Securities for approximately 2.1 billion yen ($13 million). The deal secures a Type 1 financial products license in Japan, bypassing the typical multi-quarter approval process. Dylan LeClair, head of Bitcoin strategy at Metaplanet, clarified that the brokerage will serve as infrastructure for "Bitbonds", or Bitcoin-backed tokenized bonds, rather than merely financing internal purchases. The initiative aims to allow companies with Bitcoin treasury strategies to raise capital by issuing bonds with yields between 4% and 6%, eventually moving toward on-chain settlement via stablecoins. This move extends "Project Nova", focusing on building native Bitcoin financial infrastructure. Benchmark maintains a "buy" rating with a 405 yen target price. Metaplanet currently holds 43,000 Bitcoin, valued at nearly $2.8 billion.
