Coinbase Q2 Revenue Misses Expectations While Spot Market Share Hits Record 10.3%

Despite the miss, adjusted EBITDA remained positive at $208 million for the 14th consecutive quarter, while earnings per share stood at -$0.41. Trading revenue totaled $599 million against expectations of $628 million, and subscription and service revenue reached $555 million versus the anticipated $599 million.
The exchange’s global cryptocurrency spot trading market share climbed to a record 10.3%, marking the third consecutive quarter of highs, with derivatives share also hitting new peaks. Coinbase increased its BTC holdings by 819 coins, bringing total reserves to 17,211 BTC, a 5% quarter-over-quarter rise. Non-Bitcoin spot trading contributed 88% of net revenue, while subscription and service revenue grew to 48% of the total, up from 29% in Q4 2024. Average USDC balances on the platform surged to a historic $20 billion, representing over 30% of circulating supply. CEO Brian Armstrong stated, "Coinbase is no longer just betting on Bitcoin prices," as the company narrowed its fiscal 2026 adjusted expense guidance and projected forecasted market contracts revenue to grow 106% quarter-over-quarter.
