Texas Crypto Kiosk Fraud Losses Hit $56.8M, Leading US States
FBI data reveals Texas crypto kiosk fraud reached $56.8M in 2025, topping US states. Nationwide losses surged 58% to $389M, prompting lawmakers to consider measures beyond standard regulation.
Woofun AI data shows that FBI submissions to a legislative committee indicate Texas cryptocurrency kiosk-related losses totaled $56.8 million in 2025, based on 1,179 complaints. This figure ranks first among all U.S. states, while nationwide complaints reached 13,460 with losses increasing 58% year-over-year to $389 million.
Jesse Saucillo, Deputy Commissioner of the Texas Department of Banking, noted that fund recovery is nearly impossible once assets move to non-custodial wallets and mixers. He highlighted that AI-generated impersonation of law enforcement has increased scam deception. While around 30 states have enacted kiosk laws since 2023, Texas House Committee Chairman Rep. Cole Hefner stated the state will evaluate measures extending beyond current regulatory frameworks.
