Boltz Indefinitely Suspends Bitcoin Swap Service Due to AI-Assisted Attacks
Non-custodial swap platform Boltz halts Bitcoin Lightning-to-base layer transfers indefinitely. Accelerated AI-driven exploits outpaced security patches, forcing a shutdown while refund APIs remain active.
Woofun AI reports that non-custodial Bitcoin swap service Boltz has indefinitely suspended its operations, with no restoration timeline provided. The platform, which facilitates transfers between the Lightning Network and the Bitcoin base layer without holding user funds, cited a surge in automated, AI-assisted probing over recent months as the primary cause.
Boltz stated that while previous exploit incidents were contained, the rapid iteration speed of attackers exceeded the team's capacity to identify and patch vulnerabilities. Following an acceleration of attacks in recent days, the company determined it could not responsibly resume services.
However, the API remains available for collaborative refunds, unilateral refunds continue to operate independently of Boltz infrastructure, and customer support remains accessible.
