Micron: Memory Share Hits 50% as AI Agent Demand Enters Pre-Season Phase

Micron states memory now accounts for nearly 50% of system value, up from 10%, with DRAM and NAND in short supply. AI Agent demand is viewed as a new growth pillar alongside GPU ecosystems.

Woofun AI reports that Micron disclosed to Deutsche Bank at the FMS 2026 conference that the memory industry landscape is being reshaped by AI. The proportion of memory in total system value has increased from approximately 10% three decades ago to nearly 50% currently, a trend that is accelerating. Both DRAM and NAND are experiencing supply shortages. Because memory upgrades necessitate physical system disassembly, demand within AI systems is rigid, exhibiting lower price elasticity than anticipated. Strategic Customer Agreements (SCAs) are projected to constitute roughly 40% of sales, offering price stability for both parties.

Micron management characterized CPU-side AI Agent demand as a "pre-season warm-up", identifying it as an additional growth pillar distinct from the GPU ecosystem. Regarding emerging technologies like SRAM, Micron assessed their scalability as limited, noting they cannot displace HBM's dominance, with only about 5% of systems currently running such specific workloads. Deutsche Bank retained its "buy" rating, highlighting Micron's ability to grow without compromising profits. While Sandisk and SK Hynix released initial HBF technical specifications during FMS, Micron expressed skepticism regarding their actual value and commercialization potential.
