Woofun AI reports that Situational Awareness, the AI-focused fund established by former OpenAI researcher Leopold Aschenbrenner, committed $400 million this week to Source Foundry, a private semiconductor manufacturing startup. Sequoia Capital is also reported to have provided backing to the venture. Source Foundry aims to develop a semiconductor manufacturing process that is simpler, cheaper, and faster than current methods, intending to address the widening gap between artificial intelligence hash rate demand and chip production capacity. Representatives from Situational Awareness and Source Foundry have not responded to comment requests, while Sequoia Capital declined to confirm its investment status.
