Block’s 25% Profit Surge Masks 31% Bitcoin Arm Decline Amid Fee Cuts

Woofun AI reports that Block’s consolidated gross profit climbed 25% to $3.166 billion, yet this aggregate growth obscured a sharp contraction within its Bitcoin Ecosystem segment. While the broader company expanded, the Bitcoin division emerged as the sole outlier in the three-part breakdown, signaling a divergence between overall corporate health and specific crypto-unit performance.

The financial disparity across segments was stark. Commerce Enablement gross profit rose 18%, and Financial Solutions saw a 43% increase, driving the total upward trajectory. In contrast, the Bitcoin Ecosystem experienced a 31% year over year drop, with gross profit falling to $72 million. This decline stood in direct opposition to the robust expansion seen in the other two business lines.

Structurally, the Bitcoin Ecosystem revenue decline stemmed from a "strategic decision" to reduce the fee on certain Cash App bitcoin transactions, compounded by bitcoin trading dynamics. Per Woofun AI, the company reported 59 million monthly transacting actives for Cash App in June, but failed to provide Bitcoin-specific transaction volume, user count, or adoption lift. Consequently, the filing lacked data on fee revenue per trade, Bitcoin-user totals, or take rate, leaving the impact of the pricing change unquantified.

A more critical variable is the non-operating fair-value effect, which recorded an $88.474 million bitcoin remeasurement loss compared to a $212.165 million gain previously. This $300.639 million swing was separate from Bitcoin Ecosystem revenue, costs, and gross profit. The margin squeeze reflects weaker economics, while the remeasurement loss indicates balance sheet valuation changes, leaving the true activity gain from fee cuts unquantified.
