Solana .sol Registrations Suspend August 17 Ahead of Eligibility Snapshot

Solana Name Service halts .sol signups on August 17 for snapshot. Holders get free .sol and .sns domains. New .sol features roll out Q4 2026.

Existing holders will receive both a .sns domain in their original wallet and a complimentary .sol domain, with ownership determined by wallet contents at the snapshot time. Domains hosted on exchanges must be moved to self-custody wallets prior to the snapshot, while listed domains will issue new .sol versions to the listing wallet. .

sns registrations are scheduled to resume in early to mid-September. The upgrade aims to enable direct browser access for .sol addresses, supporting Solana Foundation's ICANN application for .sol as a top-level domain. Newly issued .sol domains will initially lack parsing, registration, or subdomain functions, with these capabilities rolling out from the fourth quarter of 2026 to the first quarter of 2027. Eligible wallets will automatically receive the new .sol domains by late September or early October.
