NVIDIA Invests in SSI, Boosting Compute by Order of Magnitude
NVIDIA secures long-term deal with Ilya Sutskever's Safe Superintelligence, providing massive GPU resources to shift reliance from Google TPUs.
Woofun AI reports that NVIDIA has invested in Safe Superintelligence (SSI), the AI laboratory founded by former OpenAI chief scientist Ilya Sutskever. The parties signed a long-term agreement wherein NVIDIA provides substantial flagship GPU resources, increasing SSI's computing capacity by an order of magnitude. SSI previously relied primarily on Google TPU chips for its research. This collaboration follows NVIDIA's March investment in Thinking Machines Lab, founded by former OpenAI CTO Mira Murati. SSI, valued at approximately $30 billion last year, has raised about $2 billion from investors including Andreessen Horowitz and Sequoia Capital. NVIDIA did not disclose the specific investment amount, describing it only as "large-scale".
