Woofun AI reports that South Korea's largest cryptocurrency exchange, Upbit, has initiated a temporary suspension of deposits and withdrawals for all tokens operating on the Chiliz chain. This operational pause is scheduled to commence at 3:00 a.m. UTC on June 30 in direct response to an impending network hard fork on the Chiliz blockchain. The exchange confirmed the suspension covers a specific set of 11 assets: CHZ, PSG, JUV, ACM, AFC, ATM, BAR, CITY, INTER, NAP, and SPURS.
Most of these suspended assets function as fan tokens representing major football clubs, including Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), Juventus (JUV), FC Barcelona (BAR), and Manchester City (CITY). Chiliz (CHZ) serves as the native utility token powering both the Chiliz blockchain and the Socios.com fan engagement platform. Upbit has not disclosed a precise resumption date, noting that services will only restart once the network upgrade concludes and stability is verified.
This suspension impacts a substantial segment of the fan token market, which depends entirely on Chiliz's infrastructure for transfers and trading activities. For holders of these specific tokens, the inability to move funds during the hard fork window introduces immediate, albeit temporary, liquidity constraints. Hard forks represent network upgrades that implement new protocol rules, often delivering enhanced security or novel features while necessitating service interruptions to guarantee compatibility.
Woofun AI data shows that Upbit's decision aligns with standard industry protocols designed to safeguard user assets during technical transitions.
However, the event highlights the systemic risk inherent in the fan token sector's reliance on a single blockchain infrastructure. Any operational disruption to Chiliz can directly impair the liquidity and trading capabilities of these tokens across multiple platforms simultaneously.
South Korea's cryptocurrency market remains one of the most active globally, meaning Upbit's announcements frequently dictate regional trading volumes and investor sentiment. The exchange's cautious stance reflects strict adherence to local regulatory expectations alongside a commitment to protecting user funds during volatile technical periods. This proactive suspension aims to prevent transaction errors or asset loss, marking a routine yet critical technical event for CHZ and affiliated fan token holders.
