The truth is you can make money trading in a dozen different ways. Read any Market Wizards book and it becomes obvious. It's all about finding a system that works for you.

The piece that makes this work is incentive alignment.
Many early DeFi experiments tried and failed. The industry took the wrong lesson - we stopped trying.
Capital and engineering retreated toward refining what already works: fiat-backed stablecoins, perp DEXs, trading apps.
All worthy pursuits, but as long as incentive misalignment exists, crypto will always remain a grey backwater where bad actors crowd out honest ones.
The next step is a framework for building new cryptoeconomic primitives - one that breaks away from traditional Silicon Valley startup thinking and draws more from how computer games are designed.

The incentives are identical: earn clout by any means then use your newly earned followers as exit liquidity.
In other words, it works about as well as a social trading app as CT does.
Can we do better? Absolutely.
When incentives are misaligned so that the optimal way to play the game is to act dishonestly, the game will eventually devolve into a market for lemons. We're seeing that with CT already (that's why KOL trust is at ATL) and Fomo/Pump will 100% speedrun to this outcome.
Hard to see now when they're smashing every KPI in the book, but these things only become obvious in hindsight.
