They're wrong.
Just look at the long term decline of the free checking account.
In 2009, 76 percent of basic checking accounts were free.
Today it's 47 percent.
One reason fewer institutions offer free checking: the cost of offering those accounts keeps rising.
The hidden administrative costs of moving money at scale keep compounding while little in the underlying infrastructure has improved.
Most banks aren't adopting FedNow or RTP, and these accounts have become less profitable to offer.
This is an opening for stablecoins.
Automate the back office of financial provisioning and fewer people in the US end up unbanked. More of these programs become profitable to run.
The domestic US market carries some of the largest hidden costs in financial services, which makes it one of the largest opportunities for this technology.
