If you don't like journals, you probably don't view it as a big deal that they get parasitized. Not saying that anyone has an obligation to parasitize them though. We're probably on the same page that if you like journals you should create a norm against colleagues who over-burden them. Indeed journals already keep track of the people who always refuse reviews or repeatedly submit low-quality work. My take is that the journals are a lost cause and that the field needs to move on so I don't much care if people are parasitizing them. It is secondary to other things that seem more important to me, like solving important problems. I would rather see 1,000 Levents bloom and it seems like encouraging Levent is more likely to bring that about. Maybe people should blog about their own results and their digestions of others (like Terry Tao) to publicize them for their colleagues. Maybe new forms of journal will spring up to collect these into survey papers or magazines or whatever. Would be cool to see something intermediate between eg Quanta and a traditional journal crop up.

@Quasilocal @octonion If you don’t think journals are useful or legitimate, that seems pretty germane to whether or not it’s okay to further burden them. Journal hate is pretty mainstream even within academia right? If they don’t like that they are free to vet the submissions however they want.

Kinda crazy how eg China, Singapore, HK all require passport registration to get a proper SIM + number. Normally I'm not a fan of this kind of state control, but it seems fair to have some gating for a public service. If the US was like this, spam would go away overnight

issue is most people talking about taking risks aren't talking about like betting 10% vs the correct 30% of their portfolio on something (or analogous). a lot of risks aren't really risks when properly understood. and then there are some like free diving off a cliff that have no reward and are just stupid.

Intention and result are pretty different. As far as intention, it seems most of Levent’s incentives point towards his current behavior. And the results also seem pretty efficient. Why should he spend more time digesting it when that can be left to others? Clearly he has other uses for that time that seem more valuable even from the perspective of mathematics. Would you rather we didn’t have the S6 result and he was setting up a blog or re-reading earlier work? Should he just work harder? Also it sounds like you want him to effectively run a forum which famously tends to attract even more hostility than he is getting here
