Cofounding Session eight years ago was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. What began as a whitepaper and a dream grew into an app that has been downloaded more than 10 million times and is now used by more than a million people each month to send and receive private messages.
None of this would have been possible without the developers, designers, contributors and community members who poured their time and talent into Session, or the backers who believed in Session’s vision and supported us along the way. Together, we helped improve privacy and security for millions of people and showed what decentralised technology could achieve at genuine consumer scale.
It’s no secret that Session has faced significant funding challenges over the past year. Throughout this period, my focus was on helping the project find a sustainable path forward. When Session needed support most, the community stepped up and donated more than $200,000 towards its continued development. I’m incredibly grateful to everyone who contributed.
With renewed energy behind the project, I feel this is the right time for me to take a break and spend some time exploring other interests. I’ve only been able to make this decision because I have complete confidence in the developers and contributors continuing with Session. They have the talent and integrity needed to lead the project forward and continue pursuing its vision of building the most private messaging app in the world.
