It’s great marketing for casinos that there are tons of books saying you can be good at blackjack. You trick people into thinking they are playing a skill game because there are some skilled players. Prediction markets are the same thing. The majority of users are losing yet “everyone is an expert on something” But most people aren’t experts on sports betting so why is all the volume there?

We (@meanwhile) took a different approach to building our first product. Most innovation in life insurance has added layers of complexity on top of an existing product. We took one of the simplest life insurance products from the 1800s and denominated it in Bitcoin. It lasts your whole life, you pay a fixed amount in premiums, and you get a guaranteed death benefit. Complicated insurance products are rarely for the benefit of the user. They are complex to serve the company and the agents selling them.

A tip: The best time to consider buying life insurance is long before any obvious reason to do so. If you’re like me, you probably didn’t start thinking about life insurance until later in life. Many don’t until something changes: a medical scare, starting a family, or just getting older. The reality of life insurance is that the younger and healthier someone is, the better a policy they are likely to find. Life insurance is a long-term business and underwriters have to be practical about the risks they are willing to underwrite. Age and health matter a lot. Take our whole life policy, a 25 year-old will secure a larger death benefit than a 55 year-old from the same amount of premiums paid. That doesn’t mean you are too late. Maybe you own the policy while insuring another eligible life. But being young is a great time to look at your options.
