the 1T IPOs are not good for the middle class. this is just giving socialism more momentum. the government should help companies go public sooner so that wealth can be more evenly distributed if we don't want something crazy to happen.

the new chinese models are good, and i definitely don't think it's good news for anthropic. they're very capacity constrained, and that's degrading everyone's experience significantly. that said, as long as openai keeps performing the way it is right now, there's very little reason to use anything else for coding. the subscription limits are good, performance is excellent, and 5.6 is on a different level from the new opensource models. where these models get more interesting is around security, since almost no one can realistically get access to openai's or anthropic's security programs, and for reasoning outside of code, at the application layer.

each era brings a new set of experiences that weren't possible before (e.g. iphone -> uber). i think there are a lot of opportunities over the next 1-3 years around this new era of intelligence. especially around travel, accounting, household management, and information. before we reach agi (whatever that means), i expect something similar to previous eras. a new intelligent software layer that enables products and experiences that simply weren't possible before. we should stop overthinking the models (leave that for the ppl working about the models) and focus on building new things with intelligence instead. there's too much noise in the wrong place right now, imo.

how do the two labs justify their $1T valuation going into an IPO if the chinese labs release this level of intelligence in open weights? either the existing benchmarks are no longer usable, or the math is not going to make sense
