Earnings are booming, but investors are worried. Why?

A new Bloomberg report says 85%+ of S&P 500 companies just beat earnings expectations, the best rate since 2021. Profits are growing 30%+ year over year, something that's only happened 10 times since 1936.

Normally that kind of growth follows a crash (think Covid or 2008). This time there was no crash. It's just... happening.

So why the nerves? Bloomberg points out that growth this hot usually cools off, and when it does, stocks historically don't reward it the same way they did on the way up. A few companies already beat estimates this season and still saw their stock sell off, a sign the good news might already be priced in.

Nobody's calling for a crash. It's more like: we're in uncharted territory, and the "coming down from the peak" part is historically the trickiest to navigate.
