America spent $1.052 trillion on net interest in fiscal 2026. National defense cost $965 billion.

That’s $87 billion more servicing debt than funding national defense. Roughly 9% more, without paying off a dollar of the principal.

My bet is that when voters refuse the spending cuts and tax rises needed to fix this, politicians will push central banks towards easier money. Letting inflation eat part of the debt is politically a lot easier than sending everyone an honest bill.

A savings plan that depends on politicians protecting your purchasing power looks more reckless to me than owning Bitcoin.
