Musk Predicts AI Surpasses Human Intelligence in Five Years, Chinese Firms Lead
Elon Musk forecasts AI intelligence exceeding human sum within five years. He identifies China's power advantage as key to global leadership, noting US chip bans may prove ineffective against China's energy scale.
Woofun AI reports that Elon Musk stated during an interview with The Economist that artificial intelligence capabilities may exceed the collective intelligence of humanity within the next five years. He indicated that Chinese AI enterprises are "very likely" to emerge as global leaders, provided they secure substantial computing resources.
Musk emphasized that China holds a distinct advantage in power supply, which is becoming the critical bottleneck for AI development alongside cooling capacity, rather than chips alone. He noted that China's power generation exceeds the combined output of the United States, Europe, and India, suggesting that US export restrictions on advanced chips and lithography technology may have limited long-term effectiveness.
Additionally, Musk predicted that AI will first disrupt digital roles like software engineering, potentially surpassing 99% of engineers in programming ability, while driving societal productivity gains that could shift economic models from universal basic income to universal high income.
