Woofun AI reports that South Korean exchange Bithumb has scheduled a service suspension for five digital assets starting July 8 at 10:00 a.m. UTC to facilitate an Optimism network upgrade. This operational pause directly impacts the Optimism (OP) token alongside other major assets to ensure a secure transition during the technical maintenance.
The suspension encompasses tokens operating across specific chains, including Ethereum (ETH), Worldcoin (WLD), and WalletConnect (WCT) on the Optimism network.
Additionally, Metal (MTL) listed on the Metal L2 network faces identical restrictions during this maintenance window. Per Woofun AI, the exchange confirmed that these specific assets require a halt to prevent potential technical disruptions to user funds.
Deposits and withdrawals will cease precisely at 10:00 a.m. UTC on July 8, with no fixed resumption time currently disclosed. Services will only restart once the network upgrade concludes and full system stability is verified by the engineering team. Traders must finalize any pending transactions before this cutoff time to avoid significant processing delays.
As one of South Korea's largest platforms, Bithumb's decision creates immediate liquidity constraints for strategies involving arbitrage, DeFi interactions, or cross-exchange transfers. The inclusion of Ethereum (ETH) is particularly critical given its role in paying gas fees and powering activity within the Layer 2 ecosystem. Such temporary halts often trigger short-term price volatility for the affected tokens despite the technical necessity.
Market participants should closely monitor official announcements from Bithumb regarding the progress of the Optimism network upgrade. The immediate priority remains completing all necessary transfers before the July 8 deadline to ensure uninterrupted access to funds.
